WELCOME!
Nicaraguan-born María Peña works as a Public Relations strategist at the Library of Congress, where she promotes its collections, programs, events, and services, and engages with national and international media outlets to gain maximum coverage for the largest federal cultural institution in the nation.
Before joining the Library of Congress, she worked as a bilingual journalist for different Spanish-language media for 31 years, including most recently as Washington Correspondent for Telemundo's digital team; La Opinion/Impremedia; and EFE News Services, the largest Spanish-language news agency in the world. Her career path led her to cover immigrant rights protests in Washington, chase down lawmakers in the hallways of Congress, question presidents during briefings at the White House, visit immigrant shelters along the U.S.-Mexico border, and cover pivotal moments in U.S. foreign policy in the streets of Havana, Jerusalem, and Mexico City, to name a few.
Maria speaks English, Spanish, and French, and has working knowledge of Italian. She enjoys meeting new people and learning about their life journeys, something that guided her successful career as a journalist. Maria believes in the power of cultural diplomacy to promote human understanding.
Let her photography skills and longtime media experience work for you!
